We are always interested in hearing from either experienced or new writers. We accept artworks, commentaries, essays, short films, interviews, photographs, poems, reviews and travelogues (and, soon, fiction). Please browse the site to see the variety of genres, styles and viewpoints, or contact Editor Derek Turner with your ideas – editor@brazen-head.org.
The Brazen Head is a quarterly. Accepted work will be published in the next available issue. Articles may be subject to editing, but any substantive changes will be approved by the author. We request First World Rights and the right to include the work on our site indefinitely. After publication, all other rights revert to authors, who retain copyright. Please acknowledge The Brazen Head if your work has appeared there first.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted by another publication.
Long-form pieces are welcomed. Articles, essays, and interviews may be anything between 1,000 and 7,000 words, while reviews (books, film, music, TV, visual arts) can range from 800 to 3,000 words. If you would like us to review one of your books, please contact the Editor.
Hyperlinks within text are acceptable. Please use endnotes rather than footnotes, and cite credible sources.
We welcome photo or picture essays – between three and 20 original, clearly labelled images linked by theme, submitted as individual JPEGs, with details of the artist or photographer. Large files may be sent by WeTransfer.
Poems should be sent directly to Poetry Editor, Dr Liam Guilar, at poetryeditor@brazen-head.org We accept single poems, groups of poems, and permitted translations from living or old poets. As far as is compatible with house style and template, we shall retain original formatting.
We cannot currently offer payment. However, your work will be circulated widely on Facebook, Gab, Twitter and (where appropriate) on Instagram and Youtube, and will be permanently online at the Brazen Head site. Your work may also link to your own site(s) or other work. Click here to see our Head Lights.
We look forward to working with you.
